3 modes, painting system, clones, hunter tools, scoring. No XP, no levels β pure skill expression.
Game Modes (3 total)
Three distinct modes β all revolve around hider/hunter dynamics.
Fixed Hiders vs Hunters teams. Hunters win if they find all Hiders within time limit. Hiders win by surviving. Hiders can see each other during hiding phase.
Starts with 1 (or few) Hunter(s). Caught Hiders convert into Hunters β snowball effect. Last Hider standing wins.
Everyone starts as Hider, then all switch to Hunting after hiding phase. Role-reversal mode.
Match Structure
Preparation phase. Hiders paint themselves and find positions. Duration TBD β likely configurable by host.
Hunters released to scan and eliminate Hiders.
2-10 players recommended (Steam store). Some community sources mention up to 24. Public + Private lobbies.
Hider Abilities
Color wheel + eyedropper + adjustable brush. Paint colors, patterns, textures on white body. Core mechanic.
Sample colors directly from environment for accurate matching.
Pose Menu β contort body to mimic objects. 11+ poses (June 23 patch).
Up to 2 clones (v2.0.0). Count toward blind spot metrics. If clone destroyed, main body also destroyed.
Humanoid or Cube (v1.9.0). Cube has 1x/1.4x/1.7x size variants (v2.2.0).
Save paint patterns as files for reuse. Community cosmetics.
Hunter Abilities
Tag Hiders to eliminate. Delay between shots: 2.0s (increased from 1.5s in v1.9.0).
v2.3.0 (Jun 29): toggleable ammo limits. 1 consumed on miss, 1 restored on hit. No ammo consumed when shooting a Hider.
Third-person shooter view (v2.0.0, Jun 26).
Scoring: Missed Spot Ranking
Rewards Hiders for staying unnoticed in plain sight when Hunters walk past. Based on proximity/distance and line-of-sight time. Encourages bold hiding in the open rather than tucking into corners.
Progression
MECCHA has no traditional progression: no XP, no levels, no ranks, no daily/weekly challenges, no in-game currency, no unlockable cosmetics, no battle pass. The Cube body type was added as a free update. Progression is entirely skill-based: painting speed, color-matching accuracy, map knowledge. Players can save/share outfit files as community cosmetics.
Networking & Security
P2P unencrypted connections for public lobbies β community PSA flagged this. No anti-cheat (no BattlEye/EAC/Vanguard/VAC). A published CVE documents a 2-Click RCE vulnerability via Workshop custom maps. Use private lobbies with trusted players when possible.
